Sudo Code for Windows, macOS and Linux.

One desktop application with the editor, the terminal, Sudo Mentor and your engineering record built in. Install it once, sign in once, and work as you normally would.

Installers are being prepared

The next release of Sudo Code is being built and tested on all three systems. Download links appear on this page as soon as it is published. If your institution has already invited you, your account works now, and your record starts with your first session in the IDE.

Need it for a lab date? Write to sales@sudolearn.in and we will tell you when it is ready.

Install

What you will see, and what to click.

Sudo Code builds are not yet signed with a paid publisher certificate, so Windows and macOS ask once before running it. The steps below are the whole of it.

Windows

  1. Run the installer you downloaded.
  2. Windows shows a blue box that says Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer and keep the default options.
  4. Open Sudo Code from the Start menu.

macOS

  1. Open the zip and drag Sudo Code into Applications.
  2. Open it once. macOS says it cannot verify the app. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll to the message about Sudo Code and click Open Anyway.
  4. If macOS says the app is damaged, or you prefer the terminal, run this once and open the app again:
    xattr -cr "/Applications/Sudo Code.app"

Linux

  1. On Ubuntu, Debian and Mint, install the .deb:
    sudo apt install ./sudocode_*_amd64.deb
  2. On Fedora and RHEL, install the .rpm:
    sudo dnf install ./sudocode-*.x86_64.rpm
  3. Start it from your application menu, or run sudocode.
  4. Advanced, the .tar.gz: unpack it, then set up the sandbox helper once from inside the unpacked folder. Without this it does not start on Ubuntu 24.04 and later.
    sudo chown root:root chrome-sandbox sudo chmod 4755 chrome-sandbox

Each file has a SHA-256 checksum beside it. To check a download, compare it with the output of sha256sum on Linux and macOS, or Get-FileHash in PowerShell.

One sign-in, through your browser.

Sudo Code never asks for your password inside the editor. It opens your browser, you sign in to Sudo Learn there, and the browser hands the session back.

  1. 1

Open Sudo Code and choose Log in

A notice in the bottom right corner offers it on first launch. The same action is in the status bar.

  2. 2

    Your browser opens sudolearn.in

Sign in with the email your institution invited and the password you chose. If you are already signed in, you only confirm.

  3. 3

The browser hands you back to Sudo Code

Allow the browser to open Sudo Code when it asks. Your name appears in the status bar and you stay signed in for 30 days.
